SXSW 2010 Backwards

5,404 photos and three hours of video, mostly shot on a 5D2 with a bike-mounted tripod plus a tilt-shift lens at SXSW 2010. Edited in After Effects CS5 and iMovie on a 13” Macbook. Thanks to everyone at the SF Embassy, and at SXSW in general. Quadruple rainbow thanks to @lbm@sgoralnick,@jayzombie, and everyone that gave me tips on editing this. Also thanks to all the amazing artists who played SXSW, and specifically the eight featured in this video. They are *almost* all used for less than 10 seconds, which hopefully constitutes some kind of Girl Talk fair use. In order from the video:

1) Local Natives - Wide Eyes (Fool’s Gold Remix)
2) Mayer Hawthorne - Green Eyed Love (Classixx Remix)
3) Listenlisten - Safe Home, Safe Home in Port!
4) The Ferocious Few - Porcelain Doll
5) Band of Skulls - Death by Diamonds and Pearls
6) Homeboy Sandman - Yeah But Can I Rhyme Though
7) Wallpaper - ddd
8) Marina and the Diamonds - Obsessions

Time Lapse of Everglades Camping

1,572 photos shot over seven hours on an island 68 miles South of Everglades City in Florida with a 5D mk2 and a cheap knock-off time lapse controller that works great. The beach is called Middle Cape Sable, and is the southernmost point of the continental US. Camped there with six of my awesome family members. The music, suggested by cousin Kristen, is Clelia Iruzun: Ernesto Lecuona- Always in my Heart.

A Dinosaur Family Explains Information Architecture

Our Grand Prize Award-Winning entry for the Explain IA Contest. Shot and directed by Nate Bolt and Kate Nartker who make these weird videos for fun as Beep Show. This one was for for Bolt | Peters. Starring Audrey as “daughter” and Frances James as “mother.”

Huge thanks to everyone that helped. Especially Cyd Harrell for loaning us her amazingly talented 5yr old daughter Audrey. And thanks to Audrey for being amazing. Our special guest star Lou Rosenfeld, and to Jesse James Garrett for his thoughts at IA Summit ‘09. Script by the esteemed Tony Tulathimuttewho right now is laughing, always laughing. Thanks to Paul Octavious for remote art direction. The lego Falling Water belongs to Laura G and Men’s Wearhouse. Intro Music is La Traviata Libiamo, purchased royalty-free from Stock Music, and Rick only lasts nine seconds, which should fall within fair use. Ask Girl Talk about that.

Production Details. Shot on a Canon 5D Mk2, with a seamless backdrop, and two 300w neutral lights - one in a soft box. Edited in After Effects CS4 and iMovie ‘09. Kate made the characters from blu-tack of different colors, & other types of art supply store clay.

Phoot Stars

The sky above our phoot camp. Lightroom to process photos, After Effects to assemble timelapse and do the pan and zoom, and iMovie to edit and add Bob Ross.
